Abstract | The temperature distributions in the metallic foils induced by a long-pulsed laser-beam with either Gaussian-type or uniform-type in its spatial distribution in intensity were examined in order to analyze the newly-discovered reverse-plugging effect (RPE). An exact solution for the temperature fields was derived by using the Hankel transform and Laplace transform. Numerical results were obtained for both types of spatial distribution in laser-beam intensity, and the results show that the spatially uniform distribution inlaser-beam intensity offers a formidable potential for the observed RPE, hence is the main reason for the RPE.(9 refs) |
