Abstract | The minor element chlorine is richly contained in biomass or some coals. During co-combustion of biomass and coal, some of chlorine will release as gaseous HCl, NaCl, KCl, or Cl, which may affect the concentration of OH, H, O, and HO2radicals, and further influence CO reaction. In the work, chlorine is assumed to release as gaseous HCl, and the effect of chlorine on CO combustion is revealed by CFD simulation coupling with the reduced mechanism. Trace amounts of HCl obviously inhibit CO combustion under oxygen-rich condition, and the inhibited effect enhances as HCl concentration rises, but weakens as temperature increases. HCl inhibits CO combustion mainly through suppressing OH formation. |
