Abstract | The key issues in development of underwater acoustic absorbing materials originated from rigorous requirements on high mechanical strength, large underwater acoustic absorbing coefficient in wide frequency band and sea-water corrosion resistance. A new kind of Metalpolymer composites was developed to satisfy the above demands. Locally resonant units were embedded in the material to realize large acoustic absorption with characteristic unit size of two ordered magnitude smaller than the relevant sonic wavelength. Moreover, the interpenetrating network structure was constructed to reinforce the physical connection in the material resulting in promoting the strong multiple scattering and extensive resonant modes. Experimental and theoretical results showed that excellent underwater acoustic absorption capability and strong mechanical strength could be obtained simultaneously. |
