Abstract | The tribology performance of the rough rail/wheel interface under water lubricated contact has been a concern for a long time. Generally researchers produce the rough surface by sanding, polishing, grinding and turning. The surface topography can't last long under high contact pressure. This study is aimed at investigating the influence of laser spot strengthened surface topographies after running-in on elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication through experimental simulation in the laboratory. Two laser spot strengthening machine and a two-disc rolling/sliding test machine has been used in this experimental work. Four different diameters of strengthened spots were produced on wheel test specimens. A design of experiment approach has been used to conduct experiments and to analyze the results. The results shows that laser spot strengthened surface do influence friction under water lubricated contact. |
