Abstract | Transitional flames in hot and diluted are of vital importance in understanding the formation and stabilization mechanism of MILD combustion. Previous simulation pointed out that stronger oxygen leakage through the weakened reaction zone in lower coflow oxygen and temperature cases induces stronger partial premixing and preignition reaction. To characterize the transition process in detail, simulation was carried out with smaller temperature gap of coflow with same composition. The results showed a non-monotonic trend of liftoff height variation and a potential role of hydroperoxyl in the transition process towards the transitional flame. © 2017 Eastern States Section of the Combustion Institute.
