Abstract | A continuous testing method (CTM) for fatigue strength evaluation is presented in this work based on probability and statistics theory. CTM could test specimens simultaneously and reduce the testing period by over 66.7% for sixteen samples compared to up-and-down method (UDM). Experimental results of three materials indicate that the lower limits of fatigue strength evaluated by CTM are superior to UDM in high cycle and very high cycle fatigue regimes. CTM is also validated by simulations and comparison with UDM for evaluating the lower limits of fatigue strength at different survival probabilities and the confidence level of 90% and 95%. |
