AbstractAn analytical approach to analyzing spacecraft formation-flying motion is proposed in this paper. Flight trajectory of spacecraft relative motion related to initial values is analytically described, and several mainly relative motion modes between formation and reference spacecrafts are significantly characterized. On the basis of analytics, furthermore, a new simplified formula is given to be applied to the formation-flying design. © 2002 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
